Advising and Counseling

Catholic Memorial High School has a strong track record in uncovering learning needs and providing accommodations to students that have diverse learning styles and learning plans.

The Catholic Memorial Academic Advising and Counseling Department ensures that every student receives the academic, personal, and spiritual support needed to succeed.

Upon arriving at CMH, a dedicated advisor will meet with each family to tailor a plan that's unique to each student and their college/career and life goals, and seminars are offered to assist with career pathways, college selection, and college prep.

Academic Resource Center

The Academic Resource Center (ARC) is a modern learning space that provides access to technology, quiet rooms for focused studies, learning labs and areas for group collaboration. Teachers and two learning resource specialists are present each hour of the day to offer support in every subject to all students at CMH. This unique space and approach to one-on-one attention provides an open and inviting forum for questions, collaboration and innovation for students at every academic level.

Growth Plan for Students (GPS)

The Growth Plan for Students (GPS) is Catholic Memorial’s intentional means for fostering community and nurturing the development of the whole person. GPS serves as a mechanism to guide students toward becoming young adults who excel and find balance in the four domains of Service, Academics, Leadership and Community. At its center, Faith is integrated in all aspects of growth and development.

Key Components of GPS

Participation

Participation in a small group of 10-14 students with one faculty or staff advisor, meeting weekly.

Organization

Groups organized by grade level that meet together all four years of high school.

Portfolio

An individual portfolio of activities in the four domains of student life.

Reflection

Regular reflection - a critical element for nurturing growth.

Catholic Memorial High School Counseling Center

Catholic Memorial High School’s counselors are committed to supporting the academic, personal/social, and college/career needs of every student. Counselors will organize a program of activities to encompass a student’s career exploration, personal identity, decision making skills, academic support, classroom guidance, and personal interviews, etc. Each student is assigned a school counselor, available throughout the school day. Appointments are encouraged to ensure both privacy and an uninterrupted block of time for the student.

CMH’s Counseling Center houses information on public and private colleges and universities, scholarships for college, college financial aid, ACT/SAT testing, parent resources and many resources for students and families who may be facing personal obstacles. All students are serviced by the Counseling Center.
